Human beings used to live on a mostly vegan diet with a bit of meat. A shift happened about 10,000 years ago, when farming and herding came into the forefront of the tribal cultures and we began to switch to a grain-based and herding civilization. Herding meant the introduction for the first time in history of high amounts of flesh food on a regular basis. Before that the human species really did not eat a lot of meat. According to Robert Leakey, one of the leading medical anthropologists in the world, the human diet was primarily a vegan chimpanzee diet with an occasional bite of meat. Through simple logic, we can see that a brown bear is clearly more carnivorous than a human by looking at its claws and teeth, and yet a brown bear eats a diet of 95—97 percent raw plant food. The longest living Hunza people of northern Pakistan live on a diet that contains less than 1 percent meat. Consider that between 1840 and 1974, the quantity of meat eaten per person in the United States increased five times over.


Avoid cow‘s milk. Some studies have found a link between cow‘s milk ingestion and type 1 diabetes in children. It appears that some children, due to genetic reasons, react to the cow’s milk protein (caseins), which causes an autoimmune reaction with the pancreas.


Eliminate alcohol from your diet and avoid artificial sweeteners. Instead, use diabetic-safe and more healthful natural sweeteners, such as stevia or xylitol.


Diabetics are particularly vulnerable to toxins. Exposure to pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and phthalates is increasingly becoming associated with a risk for diabetes. Although fasting is not an option if you have diabetes, other therapies will help flush out toxic buildup and reduce your risk of developing diseases. Another controlled study of people with type 1 diabetes who supplemented gymnema extract found a decreased need for insulin and improved blood sugar control. Those taking a placebo showed no significant decrease in blood sugar or in insulin requirements.


Studies have found chromium supplementation to be helpful for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as for women with diabetes that occurs during pregnancy (gestational diabetes).


In addition to eating a diet of predominately fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, greens, and grains, also change your exercise regime. That is to say, start jogging or brisk walk for at least 3 miles per day or try some form of exercise that requires your whole body to work and sweat. It will help consume excess sugar. Fig leaves are best known for treating diabetes, they have anti-diabetic properties. Fig leaves are not used as much as they should be. Most of the remedies for the fig leaves use the sap or the milk of the sacred tree. Fig tinctures or poultices should be used immediately and fresh batches made daily. The diabetic needs less insulin when on a treatment of using the fig leaf extract. The diabetic should take the extract with breakfast, first thing in the morning. An additional remedy is to boil the leaves of the fig in some freshly filtered water and drink this as a tea.

The leaves of the fig tree are a very useful blood-sugar-lowering treatment. Fig trees can be grown in warmer climates. Use caution if you are taking insulin or an oral hypoglycemic drug.


Black seed, also known as Nigella Sativa is a cure for many diseases. It has been used for everything from acne to pancreatic cancers and doctors are raving about the results. For seven days take 6 teaspoons of the oil. Take the oil three different times of the day. Then take 2 teaspoons in the morning and 2 in the evening for 4 days. Follow by taking 2 teaspoons of the oil for two days. Take plenty of water in the morning and rub the oil all over the body for 10 days. You must mix the oil with fruit juice. Repeat this treatment if you do not see any improvement.

Another remedy for the treatment of diabetes is to take one half cup of the seeds that have been heated and a half cup of water cress seeds (mustard seeds can be substituted) and a 1/4 cup of ground pomegranate peel. Place these all in a blender and pulse well to a fine powder. Add in 1/8 cup of fumitory. Each day take one teaspoon of the ground powder and one teaspoon of the oil, one hour before you eat. Do this for at least one month.


Take 5-30 grams with each meal or up to 90 grams once a day. Do not take more than 100 grams as it may upset stomach and make a person nauseated. Fenugreek cannot be taken at the same time as other medicines. You must wait at least one hour and preferably two before taking fenugreek. Diarrhea and gas are common side effects of fenugreek.

Warnings: If you notice these side effects stop taking fenugreek right away: difficulty in breathing, tightness in chest, rash, swollen and itchy skin. Also if you are pregnant, consult your physician before taking fenugreek.

CINNAMONcinnamon tea to treat osteoarthritis

Cinnamon has long been reported as a good source for the treatment of diabetes. Use at least 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder per day, which is critical to “soften” the cell membranes. Cinnamon mimics insulin, thus it may lower your need for insulin immediately.


Grape seed extract has been proven to improve the conditions associated with this disease. Grape seed is successful in protecting the liver cells and setting up defense mechanisms against reactive oxygen species produced by hyperglycemic conditions.

Grape seed comes in capsules of 50-100mg. It is usually suggested to take 50mg per 50 lbs of weight, not to exceed 300mg per day. Whole grape seeds are the best alternative, which need to be ground and placed in vegetarian capsules. Taking 3 capsules a day is enough. The time of day does not matter.


Researchers have found a correlation between preventing diabetes and the consumption of olive oil. Through research, they have found that an oil rich diet may prevent diabetes. By using olive oil, you can reduce your blood sugar levels as well as LDL and triglycerides.

Olive oil reduces the cholesterol levels, and can prevent such diseases as cardiovascular, atherosclerosis and diabetes. Prevention of diabetes begins with weight management and proper diet.

Before going to bed, drink 1/4 cup of olive oil. If you prefer to use lecithin, mix one tablespoon of lecithin with one tablespoon of olive oil. Keep in mind that one cup of olive oil has 2000 calories. Just because it is healthy does not mean a person can ignore the calorie intake.


Researchers have proven that bitter melon works great with the treatment of diabetes. It contains insulin like properties which help in the lowering of the blood and urine levels. It is suggested to be used frequently. The bitter melon should be juiced and then taken on an empty stomach before eating first thing in the morning. The seeds may be ground to a powder and eaten also. You can also, make a tea from the bitter melon.


Researchers have found that using from 100-600 mg of vitamin C daily can cause you to normalize your sugar levels, in as little as one month.


Avocado seeds can help reduce the blood sugar level. Take one avocado seed and grill the seed. Slice the seed into several chunks. Add this to a pot of water and bring to boil, wait till the water turns brown. Strain the water mixture and drink when cool. Expect to see results within two weeks.


Regular use of apples can help the diabetes patients. Take one apple and cut into chunks. Place the apple in a pan with 4 cups of water and bring to boil and cook until the water is reduced in half. Drink this morning and night. It is expected to show relief within two months.


Flaxseeds has been found to improve blood sugar disorders. Use raw flaxseeds every day for extended period of time. You can use flaxseeds in cereals or in salads or sandwiches at breakfast time.

Eating a diet rich in fiber helps the body absorb sugars slowly, which in turn keeps blood sugar levels on a more even keel. Most of the vegetables and fruits in your garden are rich in fiber. Ginseng belongs to the genus panax. Two different species of ginseng, Asian ginseng and American ginseng are used as medical herbs. Biotin is involved with glucose metabolism and is helpful for type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Take 9 to 16 mg daily.

An antioxidant formula supplies additional antioxidants. which are generally required in higher amounts in people with diabetes. Take as directed on the container.


B-complex vitamins are involved in blood sugar metabolism and help treat diabetic symptoms such as neuropathy. Take a 50 mg B-complex daily. Vitamin B12 is helpful for the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy‘ Take 1000 mcg sublingually or by injection from your doctor (1 cc twice weekly).


Vitamin C helps prevent the complications of diabetes. Take 1,000 mg two or three times daily.


Magnesium is involved with insulin production and utilization. Take a daily total of 500 to 750 mg. Reduce dosage if loose stools occur.


CoQ10 tends to be low in people with diabetes. One study found that it has a blood sugar-lowering effect. CoQ1O prevents LDL cholesterol oxidation, which is more prevalent in people with diabetes.


Vitamin E improves glucose regulation and prevents cholesterol oxidation. Take 800 to 1200 IU daily of a formula containing tocotrienols and tocopherols.


Banana leaf has been shown in animal and human studies to lower bloodsugar levels. Take 16 mg three times daily.


Thymus (Thymus vulgaris) extract balances the immune system. which is important for type 1 diabetes. Take 500 mg twice daily on an empty stomach or as directed on the container.


Psyllium has been shown to reduce blood-sugar IeVels. It is a good source of fiber‘ Take up to 5 grams daily.


Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng) has been shown in a study to help improve blood-sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Take 200 mg daily.


Bitter melon (Momordica charanlia) can help balance blood sugar levels. Take 5 ml twice daily of the tincture form or 200 mg in capsule farm three times daily ofa standardized extract.


Garlic (Allium sativum) is an important herb for the diabetic. lt stabilizes blood sugar and helps reduce your risk of heart disease and other circulatory disorders by improving blood flow, lowering elevated blood pressure. and reducing levels of “bad” cholesterol. Take 300 to 450 mg twice daily.


Bilberry (Vaccinium may help to prevent diabetic retinopathy and cataractsa Take 160 mg twice a day of a product standardized to 25 percent anthocyanosides.


Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is another herb that stabilizes blood sugar. Take a product with an equivalent dosage of 15 to 50 grams daily.


Ginkgo biloba stimulates blood flow. Find a brand that’s standardized to 24 percent glycosides. and take 60 to 120 mg twice daily.


Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) oil may help prevent and treat diabetic neuropathy. Take a product containing 480 mg daily of GLA (the active essential fatty acid in evening primrose).

Diabetes does not have to be a life threatening disease. It is possible and probable with natural remedies to allow the patient to live a normal and healthy life.
